  • Aadhaar (Target Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Bill, 2016 was passed in Lok Sabha by voice vote. The bill was introduced as a money bill and aimed at giving statutory backing for transferring government subsidies and benefits to targeted people by assigning them unique identity numbers.
     
  • Egyptian diplomat Ahmed Abul Gheit (73) has been appointed as Secretary General of the Arab League at its ministerial meeting held in Cairo, Egypt. The Arab League is a regional organization of 22 Arab countries .
     
  • The Union Government has appointed former Supreme Court (SC) judge Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan (66) as Chairman of the 21st Law Commission of India (LCI). The commission was constituted   for period of 3 years with effect from 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2018.
     
  • The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2015 was passed by Rajya Sabha to protect the interests of consumers and curb the malpractices in the real estate sector. The bill seeks to establish state level regulatory authorities called Real Estate Regulatory Authorities (RERAs) and tribunals called Real Estate Appellate Tribunals (REAT) to settle disputes.
  • The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNICEF  have jointly launched the Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage.
     
  • On International Women’s Day,  ICICI Bank has launched [email protected] initiative that allows women employees to work from home for up to a year. This initiative allows women employees to work from home in a safe and secure manner, creating a seamless office-like environment.
     
  • Exercise FORCE 18, the largest ground forces multinational field training exercise on Humanitarian Mine Action and Peacekeeping Operations has concluded in Pune. The multilateral military exercise was conducted between the Indian Army and Armies of ASEAN Plus countries.
     
  • CMD of Mahindra & Mahindra Group Anand Mahindra has been conferred with the France’s Knight of the Legion of Honour.
     
  • Indian Railways have appointed Ernst & Young (EY) as a consultant to discover the advertising potential in trains and railway stations. The move aims at enhancing revenue through non-fare box route.
     
  • Combat operation of Meghalaya police, 'Hillstorm 3' has been extended by three months. Operation Hillstorm-3 was launched by Meghalaya Police on 24 February 2016 in the Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills districts to counter insurgents.
     
  • The first Maritime India Summit 2016 will be held in April 2016 in Mumbai. 57 countries are going to take part in the summit.
     
  • Parliament has passed Bureau of Indian Standards Bill, 2015 to establish Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The Bill replaces the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986. The bill establishes BIS as a national standard body for development of standardization and assessment and quality assurance of goods, articles, services, processes and systems.
     
  • Karnataka government has launched Mukhyamantri Santwana Harish Yojana to provide free medical treatment to road accident victims for the first 48 hours in the nearest government or private hospital.
  • 8th March is observed as International Women’s Day across the globe. 2016 theme declared by United Nations: “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. The campaign theme for the day was #Pledge For Parity.
     
  • Air India has successfully flew the World’s longest all-woman operated and supported flight from New Delhi to San Francisco.
     
  • Union Government has announced to withdraw proposal to tax Employee Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawals which were earlier proposed in this years’ Budget.
     
  •  USA and South Korean troops are conducting  their largest ever military exercises off the coast of the Korean peninsula. Drills will include ground, air, naval and Special Operations components apart from the computer-simulated training.
     
  • Indian Railways has formed a new Special Purpose Vehicle (National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited) to implement the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Bullet Train project.
     
  • Former Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Dr. Amrita Patel was conferred prestigious 2016 Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Lifetime Achievement Award also known as the Krishi Shiromani Samman.

  • Tennis player Maria Sharapova(Russia) has been provisionally suspended after failing drug test. She has been tested positive for meldonium, a substance that has been added in the forbidden list by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on 1 January 2016.

 

  •  Union Government has launched an online marketing platform Mahila E-HAAT to facilitate women entrepreneurs to sell their products to buyers. It is a Joint initiative of Union Women and Child Development Ministry and Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK).
  • The Union Government has released a new Four-colour Classification Scheme for industries based on their pollution potential. The four-colour classification scheme of industrial sectors is based on the Pollution Index (PI) which is a function of the Emissions, Effluents, hazardous wastes generated and Consumption of resources.
     
  • Capital Local Area Bank (CLAB) Limited has become the first in India to get Small Financial Bank Licence by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
     
  • Internet pioneer and e-mail inventor Raymond Tomlinson has passed away.
     
  • Indian scientists have developed herbal medicine for dengue fever using Ayurveda.
     
  • Renowned Dogri poetess and writer Padma Sachdev has been awarded prestigious Krutitava Smagra Samman for the year 2015.
