NCL Pune develops indigenous nasopharyngeal swabs

  • The National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune has successfully developed an indigenous nasopharyngeal (NP) swab.
  • These swabs are used for collecting samples from the throat cavity of patients affected with Coronavirus.
  • The nasopharyngeal swab is a medical device with stringent specifications of quality, polymer grade, dimensions, and sterilization.
  • NCL has transferred the technical knowhow to a chemical company in Mumbai.
  • They will be able to produce 1 lakh swabs per day.
  • NCL is an Indian government research lab that works under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research.
