ICMR gives approval to plasma therapy trials for COVID-19 treatment
  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given approval to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) to conduct plasma therapy trials for Coronavirus Disease 2019 treatment.
  • Convalescent plasma therapy is a procedure in which antibodies from a recovered patient are injected into a sick person.
  • With the help of these antibodies, the immune system of the sick person can combat the virus.
  • This therapy has been very effective in treating the Ebola Virus Disease.
  • SCTIMST, Kerala is an institution of national importance.
