  • The government has set up a public charitable trust under the name of “Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund)“.
  • Prime Minister of India is the Chairman of this trust and its members include Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
  • This national fund will be primarily utilised to deal with any kind of emergency or distress situation, and to provide relief to the affected.
  • The Prime Minister’s office has stated that it has been receiving innumerable requests for making generous donations to support the government in the wake of this Coronavirus Disease 2019 emergency.
  • This national fund has been created in response to those requests.
