Biofortified carrot variety developed by Indian farmer scientist

Shri Vallabhbhai Vasrambhai Marvaniya, a farmer scientist from Junagadh district, Gujarat has developed a biofortified carrot variety.
This carrot variety, named Madhuban Gajar, has become the main source of income for more than 150 local farmers in the area.
This variety is now being cultivated in more than 1000 hectares of land in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh.
“National Innovation Foundation - India” has conducted trials for this variety.
They have validated that this carrot variety is high yielding, has highest carotene content, and deep red colour, long size, and longer shelf life.
He received a national award at the 9th National Grassroots Innovation Awards ceremony in 2017.
He also received the Padma Shri in 2019.
